About the Speaker: Gilad Kuperman MD, PhD
Dr. Kuperman's role as Director of Quality Informatics at New York Presbyterian Hospital is to use information technology to advance the quality agenda. He chairs the Clinical Alerts Committee and the Medication Safety and Informatics Committee there. He is involved in evaluation research to measure the impact of clinical decision support on the process and outcomes of care. He also is involved in hospital-based performance improvement projects, such as falls reduction and oncology computer order entry, that involve the information systems in meaningful ways. He is an elected Fellow of the American College of Medical Informatics.
Abstract:
This talk will review the quality problems in health care and the ways in which information technology has been used to address them. The talk will cover the issues in creating and maintaining knowledge-based expert systems in clinical environments. The talk will also give an overview of the quality initiatives in place at New York Presbyterian Hospital, a large academic medical center in New York City, and the ways that information technology is being used to support those initiatives.
