The following clinical research data management applications were all built on the STRIDE platform.
Dermatology Multimedia Data Manager
The Stanford Cancer Genetics Clinic provides genetic counseling and oncology services to families at risk for hereditary cancers. They currently enter research data into a custom application developed by the Center for Clinical Informatics using the STRIDE platform. The highly structured data entry screens ensure high data capture quality. Genetic family tree diagrams can be attached to the chart at the click of a button. Chart review and simple reporting functions are built into the application, and the system has the potential to connect to various automatic data feeds from the hospital. Ad-hoc research query capabilities will soon complete the project, fully meeting their needs for complex and sophisticated data management and data mining. Read More

High Risk Obstetric Anesthesia Database
Frustrated by being unable to readily answer questions like "Is there an association between poor prenatal care and disposition to the critical care unit?", researchers in the Department of Anesthesiology requested help in building a data entry system for research-relevant data relating to Anesthesiology's Obstetric services. The Center for Clinical Informatics responded with a secure HIPAA compliant application for structured data entry utilizing controlled clinical vocabulary terms to encode the data. According to Dr. Steven Lipman,the driving force behind the project, "This database will be an exceptionally powerful tool for us. It will enable us to get a better handle on what happens here where we practice, will generate scholarly work, and dovetails nicely another program we are trying to start (simulation based crisis management training oriented towards obstetrics)." Parental Bereavement Tracking
The department of Pediatrics - Hematology/ Oncology has in the past taken a somewhat ad-hoc approach to following up with the bereaved parents of deceased pediatric patients. They are now experimenting with a more systematic and formal approach to maintaining contact. In support of this The Center for Clinical Informatics has built a secure application that acts as a custom database for parental followup on a variety of occasions, including sending condolence messages to commemmorate the child's birthday and arranging and hosting annual bereavement ceremonies. Retinal Dystrophy Patient Database
Retinitis pigmentosa is a progressive degeneration of the retina. It is also a longstanding research interest of Professor Michael Marmor, former chairman of the department of Ophthalmology. Feeling hopeful that a cure may soon be found for this relatively rare but debilitating condition, Dr. Marmor requested help transferring his list of patients with the disease to a HIPAA compliant system. StudyScope
The Center for Clinical Informatics StudyScope service provides HIPAA-compliant access to anonymized, full fidelity radiological (DICOM) images. Researchers often wish to work with such images but do not require or do not have authorization to view patient identifying data contained within such files. StudyScope provides a configurable anonymization service allowing access to image data without requiring authorized access to patient identifying data.
