Brain Tissue Bank
The Stanford Neuropathology Laboratory, under the direction of Hannes Vogel MD (Pathology and Neurosurgery), annually receives over 800 pediatric and adult neurosurgical specimens, some in consultations, 75% of which are CNS & PNS tumors. Over 200 muscle and 30 nerve biopsies per year are also received for processing and interpretation. Formerly tracked in an Excel spreadsheet, the pathological diagnosis and freezer location of each specimen is now being tracked in a custom module of the STRIDE Virtual Biospecimen Bank developed specificially for the rapid accessioning of neuropathology samples. The Neuropathology module is one of a series of planned STRIDE modules which will afford Stanford researchers an invaluable "one-stop shop" when requesting access to biospecimens banked at Stanford.
