BMT Tissue Bank
The BMT Tissue Bank is an important core facility of the Bone Marrow Transplant Program. The Stanford Center for Clinical Informatics worked with researchers and lab managers at the BMT Tissue Bank to define a simplified workflow for processing incoming plasma and cell samples. In order to streamline the process, the STRIDE team built a custom STRIDE application to print out all the vial processing labels required for each incoming sample.

After adjusting the available settings as required, the lab technician clicks the "Add Sample for Patient" button. This causes the label printer to print out between 9 and 14 cryogenic labels in a variety of formats, some for the processing paperwork, some intended for the vial itself (see image on left). The vial is labelled with its position in the freezer box and the patient's public identifier. Once the box of labeled vials has been shipped to the research lab, the research assistant uses STRIDE to identify each sample by the public identifier printed on the sample label, resulting in a fully HIPAA compliant processing workflow. |
